Register Now for Fire, Forest Health and Biodiversity Symposium

The National Commission on Science for Sustainable Forestry (NCSSF) presents the second annual symposium, Fire, Forest Health and Biodiversity, on June 5-6, 2003 in Denver, Colorado.  The symposium will evaluate the state of current knowledge—and identify gaps in understanding—of the relationships between biodiversity and:

  • fire suppression and exclusion;
  • restoration treatments such as thinning and prescribed fire; and
  • post-fire remediation.

The keynote address will provide a broad overview of these relationships, with particular attention to the impacts of fire management on biodiversity across spatial and temporal scales. Other speakers will address the relationships between fire, forest health and biodiversity from diverse perspectives, with emphasis on inter-regional comparisons.

Panels will discuss such topics as Fire as an Ecological Process, Inter-regional Variation in Fire Regimes and Fire History, and Perspectives on Fire Management.  Participants will have opportunities in breakout sessions to share their views on these themes and provide input for the development of NCSSF's related research program.

To view the speakers and agenda, access further information, and register online, please visit http://www.NCSSF.org.  Attendance is limited to the first 120 registrants.  Group rate hotel accommodations are available.

NCSSF is a multi-sponsor commission convened and managed by the National Council for Science and the Environment.
